How Urgently Does Your Child Need Care?

By December 7, 2013Blog, Uncategorized

As a parent, you might panic at seeing your child get hurt. It is quite a common scenario to witness: parents rushing to the emergency rooms when their child complains about a stomach ache.  It is great to be alert and caring parents! However, it’s important to understand the distinction between an urgent case and an emergency case. Children are quite likely to play outside and get hurt. They may get cuts and bruises or fall sick because of a lack of immunity. In such cases, a regular doctor or urgent care appointment would suffice. (The latter if the situation cannot wait).

In Cases of Non-Emergencies:

Urgent Care Centers are typically open 24 hours, and you can walk in anytime, without an appointment for quick and affordable care.

Cases that are appropriate for Urgent Care:

  • minor cuts
  • bruises
  • vomiting
  • diarrhea
  • ear infections
  • sore throat
  • minor burns
  • drug reactions

You can also visit the urgent care clinics for treating flu, rashes, hives, colds, or lice and ringworm infestations.

Urgent care is also a more affordable alternative to visiting the emergency room – which can be extremely costly.

In Cases of Emergencies:

Urgent Care Centers, however, are not equipped to handle severe cases like road accidents. If you have a serious, life threatening emergency of any kind – you should dial 911 or get to an Emergency Room immediately.

Cases that are not appropriate for Urgent Care:

  • serious injuries
  • car accidents
  • major burns
  • life-threatening conditions

If you are having any trouble in deciding your best option in case of an urgent medical need at odd hours – first consider the severity of the issue.
